Pyramids to the Promised Land, Day 10

No one: Hey, it would be fun to revisit your trip to Egypt, Jordan, and Israel in 2019. For the next few days, you should post letters describing each day.

Me: Say less

Dear Friends,

I hope this letter finds you all well and joyful in the Lord. Today, I want to share the wonders and lessons from our journey, which took us from the Mount of Olives to Bethlehem, following in the footsteps of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Our day began with a drive past historical sites, leading us to the Mount of Olives, where we were blessed with a breathtaking view of Jerusalem. It was a moment of deep reflection, especially as we remembered Jesus’ words in Luke 9:57-62. He taught us about the cost of following Him – a path not of comfort but of complete devotion and surrender. Jesus’ call to follow Him challenges us to prioritize His kingdom above all else, even when it means leaving behind what the world considers necessary.

As we stood on the Mount of Olives, I recalled Jesus’ lament over Jerusalem in Luke 19:42, wishing its people knew what would bring them peace. It’s a poignant reminder to seek the peace only He can give.

Our walk continued through significant sites like the church of Dominus Flevit, where we contemplated Jesus’ compassion and sorrow for humanity. In Gethsemane, amidst ancient olive trees, we meditated on His prayerful submission to the Father’s will, a powerful example of trust and obedience.

Visiting the “Upper Room” brought the stories of the Bible to life, reminding us of the rich heritage of our faith. Imagining Jesus teaching near the Southern Wall of the temple added depth to His words and parables.

Our journey then took us to Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus. As we passed Rachel’s Tomb and Herodium, the contrast between the earthly power of King Herod and the humble birth of Jesus, the true King, was striking. In Bethlehem, the joy of the Gospel was palpable as we remembered the angels’ announcement to the shepherds in Luke 2:10-11, bringing “good news of great joy that will be for all the people.”

Visiting the Church of the Nativity and seeing the area where our Lord was born was a moment of awe and worship. The simplicity of Jesus’ birthplace contrasts with His heavenly glory, reminding us of His humility and love for us.

As we walked through Bethlehem and returned to Jerusalem, my heart was grateful for the opportunity to walk where Jesus walked, see the places He saw, and reflect on His life and teachings.

May this letter inspire you as much as the journey has inspired me. Let us hold fast to the lessons of faith, humility, and obedience that Jesus taught us, remembering always the great joy and hope we have in Him.

With love and blessings,

‌~PW 🌮🛶
