The Scriptures strongly emphasize the virtues of compassion and empathy, urging us to engage deeply with the emotions of others. Romans 12:15, for example, teaches us to “Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.” This should remind us of the importance of sharing in the emotional states of others without judgment or comparison. Similarly, 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 calls us to comfort others with the same comfort we have received from God, recognizing that while our troubles may vary, comforting is universally valuable.
“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” (Philippians 2:3โ4)
“Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:11)
The scriptures teach us to be sources of encouragement and support for one another. Let us be up and out of it.
