Dear Friends,
Greetings from the mesmerizing land of Egypt! After three flights to cross the globe during our first two days of travel, I trust this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. Allow me to recount the adventures from our third day traveling in this ancient and mystical land.
Our morning began with a hearty breakfast in the company of Sam, Curt, and Alan. Amidst bites of delicious local cuisine, we delved into discussions about the builders of these awe-inspiring structures, raising questions that echoed through the corridors of history. Notably, armed security highlighted the significance of our exploration into the heart of Memphis.
Memphis, the king’s home, unveiled its secrets as we journeyed through time. The air was filled with whispers of Kemt, resonating with the echoes of the Old Kingdom, where kings and pharaohs were deemed literal gods. Our guide skillfully wove tales of Abraham as a bridge connecting worlds and the gods represented by men in the New Kingdom.
The morning expedition led us to Memphis, where we stood in awe before the Colossus of Rameses and the alabaster Sphinx. These colossal monuments, remnants of a bygone era, stood as silent witnesses to the grandeur of ancient Egypt. Saqqara, once the necropolis of Memphis, unfolded before our eyes with a burial complex dating back over 3,000 years. Imhotep’s masterful design for King Djoser’s step pyramid, the oldest hewn-stone building complex known in history, left us marveling at the architectural prowess of ancient artisans. A brief pause for lunch allowed us to reflect on the wonders witnessed thus far.
In the afternoon, we ventured to the iconic Giza Plateau, home to the ancient Pyramids – wonders that have stood the test of time. A camel ride heightened our senses as we explored the intricate details of these colossal structures. Enigmatic and regal, the Sphinx gazed upon us with an air of mystery, inviting contemplation on the secrets it guards.
Our evening concluded with a return to the hotel, where a sumptuous dinner awaited us. The day’s discoveries left us in awe of the incredible history and craftsmanship that shaped this land.
Notably, our encounter with the Colossus of Ramesses added a layer of appreciation for the intricacies of ancient stone carving. The colossal statue, though unfinished, revealed the dedication and skill of master sculptors who, with simple tools, achieved perfection on a scale not seen often by modern artists at this scale.
As we retire for the night, the echoes of Memphis and the grandeur of the Pyramids linger in our thoughts. Tomorrow promises more adventures in this enchanting land, and we eagerly await the next day’s wonders.
Yours in awe of Egypt’s ancient wonders,
‌~PW 🌮🛶
