This year, at the @Eastside Church of Christ, we are embarking on a voyage together. “The Big Picture: The Narrative of Scripture” is a journey through the grand tapestry of God’s redemptive story woven from Genesis to Revelation. This series uncovers the threads of promise, covenant, and redemption that bind together the pages of the Bible.
Our adventure begins in Genesis, where the echoes of God’s good creation reverberate through the passages (Genesis 3, 12, Exodus 24, 2 Samuel 7, Jeremiah 31:31-34). Picture a divine tapestry unfolding, revealing a story of hope, restoration, and the relentless pursuit of God to reconcile humanity to Himself.
Then, we delve into the heart of the gospel (1 Corinthians 15:1–4), understanding the good news that unfolds in the life and work of Jesus. Like a masterpiece, the Bible unfolds chapter by chapter, each holding significance in God’s plan to undo the consequences of sin.
As we explore creation in Genesis 1:1–27, we’ll grasp the importance of God’s good design and our role in worship. The story takes a turn in Genesis 3:1–24, where we encounter the fall yet find hope in God’s promise of a Redeemer, a glimmer of light in the darkness.
Abraham steps onto the stage in Genesis 12:1; 15:17–18; 17:1–5; 22:16–18, as God continues His redemptive plan through one man and a promise that would bless the world. Our journey continues through the Exodus story (Exodus 1:12; 2:1–22; 6:6–8), witnessing God’s rescue and the call to see Him as our Rescuer and Redeemer.
The pages of Exodus 29:10–14 and Hebrews 9:22 unveil the need for atonement and sacrifice, setting the stage for the ultimate sacrifice foretold in Genesis 3:15. In Isaiah 53:1–7, we discover the figure of redemption in the suffering servant, foreshadowing Jesus, our Messiah.
We would love for you to join us as we explore the fulfillment of prophecy in Matthew 1:1–17 and Mark 16:15, recognizing Jesus as the central figure who changes the tide of sin and brokenness. The Church’s role in preaching the gospel unfolds in Acts 1:4–5; and 2:1–40, and we’ll conclude with glimpses of the glorious temple of God in Revelation 21:1–2 and Matthew 13:1–44.
So, buckle up, dear friends, as we embark on this journey through Scripture, uncovering the big picture of God’s love, grace, and redemption – a story that transcends time and resonates in our lives today.
