At some point, all of us will struggle with our faith, perhaps to a point where we wander from our King. The Scriptures provide warning signs that should set off alarms worth our attention. As 1 Corinthians 10:12 warns, “Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.”
Seven Danger Signals of Apostasy
- A Loss of Appetite for the Word of God:
- In the same way, a lack of appetite signals sickness in children; a waning desire for the Word of God is a danger signal.
- Scripture encourages a healthy appetite for God’s Word (1 Pet. 2:2, Psa. 1:1-3, Rom. 10:17).
- Negligence of Prayer:
- Absenteeism from the Assembly:
- The Lord commands believers to assemble for worship, designed for their good (Heb. 10:25).
- Commitment to join hands with fellow believers for the Lord’s work is vital; a lack of this spirit is a danger signal.
- Non-Involvement with the Activities of the Local Church:
- The church functions with various responsibilities, and committed believers actively participate (Rom. 12:4-8, Eph. 4:16).
- A shift towards relying on others and losing interest in participation is a warning sign.
- A Critical Spirit:
- A critical spirit, akin to adding wormwood to honey, can spoil the sweetness of brotherly love (Matt. 7:1-5, John 13:34-35).
- Criticizing every good thing becomes a danger signal.
- Lack of Regard for the Truth:
- As emphasized in several passages, concern for the truth is crucial to prevent the thriving of false teachings (Prov. 23:23, Matt. 13:44, Phil. 3:7-8).
- Dismissing the importance of God’s authorization is a dangerous signal.
- Absence of Concern for Others:
- Christianity is marked by a genuine concern for others (Matt. 7:12, Phil. 2:4).
- When self-interest prevails without regard for others, putting the Lord first is compromised – a danger signal.
Reflecting on these danger signals prompts us to evaluate our spiritual health. While there may be additional signals, this list encourages introspection. Ask yourself: How healthy are you spiritually, and what steps will you take if you recognize signs of spiritual sickness?

Good day to you found your post interesting. Especially, assembling with others while I do believe it is crucial to spend time with like minded, unfortunately, there are many churches devoted to man. It’s getting more and more difficult to find find a church that teaches biblically. I believe this is one of the reasons Churches will begin to fall. God bless you…Robin
