In life, we all encounter storms that shake us to our core. It is essential to teach our children that life has its share of difficulties, as denying this reality may lead to challenges in their faith when faced with life’s trials. Sicknesses, sudden tragedies, job loss, conflicts, and broken relationships are some of the storms that can come our way. Despite the challenges, we can find comfort and strength in God, our refuge in times of trouble.
The Scriptures vividly depict God’s role as our shelter in the storm. Let’s turn to some passages, starting with Psalm 17:5-11. In this psalm, David prays for God’s guidance and protection, trusting Him to be his stronghold. Likewise, in Psalm 57:1, 7, David seeks protection under God’s wings during calamity, knowing God will answer his prayers. And in Psalm 62:1-8, David firmly places his confidence in God as his rock, salvation, and defense, urging others to pour their hearts before God.
With Psalm 63:1-11, we witness the psalmist’s earnest seeking of God above all else. He praises and relies on God, resolving to find satisfaction in Him, even during sleepless nights. In Psalm 91:1-16, we discover that those who abide in the shadow of the Almighty find refuge and loving protection. Trusting in God means having no reason to be afraid, knowing He will be with us through life’s troubles.
Psalm 121 assures us that God keeps His people and does not slumber nor sleep. God is our refuge and portion in the land of the living. As we face life’s storms, we must take our burdens to the Lord in prayer, wait on Him, and trust in His providence. Instead of dreading trials, we should consider how they might build our character and keep us from temptation (James 1:2-4, 12).
It is remarkable to find that we are not alone when we seek refuge in God. Many others also run to Him for shelter. If we all turn to the living God as our refuge during these storms, we will stand shoulder to shoulder with like-minded individuals seeking joint protection and comfort from the storm.
May each of you find shelter and refuge in God as we journey through the storms of life together. Remember the words of Psalm 61:1-4 “Hear my cry, O God, listen to my prayer; from the end of the earth, I call to you when my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I, for you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy.”
In the arms of our Heavenly Father, we can find solace and strength amidst life’s challenges. Trust in His promises, seek His guidance, and rest assured that He is always with you, providing shelter in the storm. Let us turn to His Word and find encouragement in adversity.
