Messianic Texts in the Hebrew Bible

As part of a forthcoming publication, I’m compiling a list of common Messianic Texts in the Hebrew Bible. I am curious: what passage(s) from the Old Testament do you think tell us about the Messiah?

From the Torah

• Genesis 3:15 – The seed of the woman will crush the serpent’s head.
• Genesis 12:3; 18:18; 22:18 – In Abraham’s seed, all the nations of the earth will be blessed.
• Genesis 49:10 – The scepter shall not depart from Judah.‌
• Numbers 24:17 – A star shall come out of Jacob.

From the Historical Books‌

• 2 Samuel 7:12-16 – David’s throne was established forever.
• 1 Chronicles 17:11-14 – Promise of a descendant of David who will establish God’s house.

From the Writings

• Psalm 2 – The kings of the earth set themselves against the Lord’s anointed.
• Psalm 16:10 – You will not abandon my soul to Sheol. 
• Psalm 22 – My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
• Psalm 45 – Your throne, O God, is forever and ever. 
• Psalm 72 – Endless dominion of the king’s son.
• Psalm 110 – The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand.”
• Psalm 132:11-18 – The Lord swore to David a sure oath. 
• Proverbs 8:22-31 – The personified wisdom, seen as a type of the Messiah by some interpretations.‌

• Isaiah 7:14 – Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son.
• Isaiah 9:6-7 – For to us a child is born, to us a son is given.
• Isaiah 11:1-10 – A shoot from the stump of Jesse. 
• Isaiah 42:1-4 – Behold my servant, whom I uphold. 
• Isaiah 49:1-6 – The servant of the Lord, a light for the nations.
• Isaiah 52:13-53:12 – The suffering servant. 
• Isaiah 61:1-2 – The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me. 
• Jeremiah 23:5-6 – A righteous Branch from David. 
• Jeremiah 33:14-16 – The Branch of righteousness for David.
• Ezekiel 34:23-24 – I will set up over them one shepherd, my servant David.
• Ezekiel 37:24-25 – David, my servant, shall be king over them.
• Daniel 7:13-14 – One like a son of man coming with the clouds of heaven.
• Daniel 9:25-26 – Know and understand from the going out of the word to restore and build Jerusalem to the coming of an anointed one.
• Hosea 11:1 – Out of Egypt I called my son. 
• Micah 5:2 – But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel.
• Zechariah 9:9 – Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you. 
• Zechariah 12:10 – They will look on me, whom they have pierced.
• Malachi 3:1 – Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me.
