The Pulpit

Dear Preacher, The pulpit is not your palace, prison, or pedestal; it’s a humble space for reflection, compassion, and enlightenment.

Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” (Philippians 2:3–4, ESV)

In the pulpit, humility reigns supreme. It’s not about the preacher’s personal glory but about uplifting others. As we stand before the congregation, we are called to embody the spirit of Philippians, placing the community’s needs above our own. The pulpit becomes a place to share the wisdom of selflessness, fostering a community where each member is valued and cared for.

Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience,” (Colossians 3:12, ESV)

Compassion is the heartbeat of the pulpit. It’s a place for eloquent words and a platform for genuine care. Colossians reminds us that, as God’s chosen messengers, we are to wear compassion as a garment. The pulpit transforms into a space where kindness and gentleness are preached and lived out, creating a community where love and understanding flourish.

Buy truth, and do not sell it; buy wisdom, instruction, and understanding.” (Proverbs 23:23, ESV)

Enlightenment takes center stage in the pulpit. It’s not a one-way street but a shared journey towards understanding. Routinely, the wisdom of proverbs exhorts us to seek wisdom above all else. In the pulpit, we are not just speakers but seekers, inviting the congregation on a collective quest for deeper knowledge and spiritual insight. The pulpit becomes a beacon of light, guiding hearts toward a profound understanding of God’s Word.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” (Romans 1:16, ESV)

The pulpit is not a place for personal glory or power; it’s a humble space where humility, compassion, and enlightenment weave together. Through these biblical passages, we are reminded of the Gospels’ transformative power in shaping a community that reflects the love and wisdom of Christ.
